The Valley Winds is an artistically driven ensemble with an emphasis on community relevance. Our membership is comprised of people who want to play together and enjoy being together, but more importantly, we strive to be relevant to the people of Western Massachusetts: concerts designed to be accessible and enjoyable by all potential audience members; pay as you can admission; and unconventional performance styles and venues in order to share what we do with different populations throughout the Pioneer Valley. Thank you for coming to our events, we truly appreciate your support. If you appreciate what we do, please follow us on Facebook and consider making a financial gift to ensure that the Valley Winds has a healthy future in your community.
The Musicians The Valley Winds is a 40+ member wind ensemble comprised of many of the finest wind players from western and central Massachusetts and beyond. The members are mostly professional musicians, and music teachers, with a shared passion for music, the arts, education, and the community. The ensemble provides members with an outlet to share their passion for music with audiences, and provides the community with artistically driven musical performance. None of the musicians are paid for performing with the ensemble, however they have all invested a lot in their education and skills to bring music to you. Every musician donates their time, skills and passion to the community while participating as a member of The Valley Winds.
A professional musician would make $400-$500 per concert cycle with a fully professional ensemble similar to The Valley Winds. Each member of The Valley Winds donates the equivalent of $1500-$2000 to the community in the form of community service each season. Members of The Valley Winds collectively donate the equivalent of $67,000-$90,000 to the community per year through performance. The musicians work hard to bring music to their community. What is having music in your community worth to you? Please consider this when making your contribution.
Our Financial Model. The Valley Winds believes that all community members should have access to high quality live performances. We believe that financial status should not limit anyone's access to our musical performances. Most of our tickets are sold on a "pay what you can" scale. Every concert we bring to our community costs The Valley Winds $1,200-$2,000. To cover our costs with ticket sales alone, every audience member would need to pay $10-$20 per concert. Similar ensembles charge $20-$40 per concert, but we hope to do things a little differently. We do not feel that every community member will have discretionary income to spend on concerts. We hope all audience members will be generous in choosing how much each concert is worth to them. We hope that you will always consider the VALUE of the services and culture we provide when you are paying for your attendance. We hope you might also consider giving a little more if you are able to offset the ticket of another community member not able to give. Concerts come your community at a large cost to the musicians and organization, we hope your generosity will allow every community member to be able to financially afford The Valley Winds performances.
